The Ruder-Bundesliga 2024 in Germany is on the brink of commencing, promising a captivating sporting spectacle for enthusiasts and competitors alike. Compared to the previous year, there are some exciting updates: instead of the usual five race days, there will be three, each with a particularly thrilling program. A highlight of this season is the integration of a race day into the world-renowned SH Netz Cup. Additionally, on two race days, young athletes will have the opportunity to gain their first experiences in what can be called a "trial Bundesliga."
Rolf Warnke, one of the organizers, expressed his hope for increased participation: "With eight or 16 teams, the format could be more elaborately unfolded. There are still a few spots available in the All-Star teams as well. So, for those who are still undecided, feel free to reach out!" However, interested parties should act swiftly as the deadline for registering for the Ruder- Bundesliga 2024 is May 17, 2024.
Warnke also emphasizes that additional teams would not only strengthen the diversity and competitiveness of the league but could also further elevate spectator interest. "Highly motivated organizers are ready to ensure that the series once again becomes a highlight in the German rowing calendar this year."
The league's opening promises immediate excitement as the first race kicks off in Minden on August 17, allowing spectators to witness the eights thunder down the course up close. A definite highlight will occur on September 7 in Rendsburg as part of the SH Netz Cup. There, participating eights will have the opportunity to race on the same regatta course as the German men's eight and other international giants. The season concludes on September 21 in Mülheim an der Ruhr. The late start of the season also provides athletes who wish to compete in the German Youth and U23 Championships with the opportunity to participate.
A significant aspect of this year's season is the introduction of the "Schnupperbundesliga" for juniors. On the first and third race days, interested young talents have the opportunity to dip their toes into this exciting world. Currently, teams are indicating that multiple junior eights will participate in this initiative, marking a promising start. The more teams that participate, the better this experience will become.
Unlike the previous year, attention is already turning towards 2025, with interested organizers expressing their desire to host an RBL race day next year. This instills confidence in the organizers that the 2025 season will once again consist of five race days. Planning for the upcoming year is expected to be finalized this year to ensure a smooth operation and to increase anticipation for the future.
The Rowing Bundesliga 2024 promises to be another exciting chapter in the history of German rowing. With new goals, thrilling venues, and the inclusion of young talents, the league will continue to advance and inspire rowing in Germany.
